Feminine Rejuvenation

With age, childbirth, weight loss or weigh gain, the appearance of the female genitalia can sometimes need some rejuvenation. The most common rejuvenation procedures are liposuction of the pubis, and reduction of the length and size of the inner or outer lips, or "labiaplasty".

Labia Minoraplasty

Labia Minoraplasty (surgery of the smaller inner vaginal lips) addresses the enlarged irregular and/or uneven tissue that occurs. It can be a chronic source of irritation or sexual discomfort. This procedure reshapes the large uneven edges of the inner vaginal lips and shrinks them down. The degree of tissue reduction is decided on by the patient at the time of consultation. The recovery is quick and you will be back to normal activities rapidly.

Labia Majoraplasty

Reduction of the outer lips is sometimes called for in patients who have lost a great deal of weight, and is a less common request. It produces a dramatic improvement in vulvar appearance in patients who have lost a large amount of weight.

Both procedures have a short recovery time and rapid return to work and normal activity. It can even be done under local anesthesia in the office, and usually takes less than 45 minutes! My goal in these surgeries is to only remove enough tissue so that no inner labial tissue is visible in the "standing straight-forward" view.

Liposuction of the pubis

Reduction of the pubic area is a fairly common procedure, particularly after a tummy tuck, when the mons pubis can be disproportionally full and bulky looking relative to the rest of the abdominal contour. Usually this is just a minor liposuction procedure, but I recommend doing this under general anesthesia in the surgery center or hospital. Most patients would need or want other areas treated at the same time. Complications of these procedures are rare, and the patient satisfaction rate is extremely high.

One of my duties as your surgeon is to find out why the patient is seeking the surgery, educate the patient about the surgery, and determine if surgery can be expected to deliver the proper results. If a patient is trying to turn around a poor sex life, save a failing relationship or overcome a true sexual dysfunction, then the surgery will not succeed. The specific risks and the suitability of labiaplasty surgery for any patient can only be determined at the time of consultation; pre-and postoperative photographs can be seen at this time. If you, or someone you know, are affected by this asymmetry, please call my office at 609-601-1000 to schedule your consultation in a confidential and comfortable environment.
